Choose your bike model and find suitable brake pads

As with all of our key sections though, we would like to give you some information and background advice that you may need before purchasing your new brake pads!

An initial question we always get asked, which we will deal with here, is to explain the difference between the brake pads we offer.

So what is the benefit of HH sintered brake pads, and what is the difference?

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is an international motoring association responsible for rating friction in brake pads, for Motorcycles and cars. A Rating of HH is the highest friction rate available, demonstrating an increased stopping power due to its coefficient friction of over 0.55 both hot and cold. Brake pads with a rating of HH therefore are performance pads consistent in all conditions and temperatures.

Which brake pads are for me?

Put simply, we recommend that you invest in HH rated brake pads if you are riding a larger bike, or a smaller bike ridden hard. HH pads are composed of copper alloy, which creates the high friction coefficient, which stops any unpleasant smells when the brake is in heavy use!

If you are riding in a generally relaxed manner or ride a smaller motorcycle then standard pads are for you. Please bear in mind that a high friction rating does not necessarily mean they are right for you, and your riding style and brake system may dictate otherwise.

You will need different pads for the front wheel and rear wheel braking applications – and our model finder will guide you to only the pads that are suitable to your motorcycle, with clear indication for front or rear rotor use!

Summary

Copper-based HH sintered brake pads contain many benefits and if you are riding a larger bike, or riding harder these pads are definitely for you. Their extended lifespan and durability ensures that you can spend longer doing the riding, rather than spending time and effort changing brake pads given the spread out replacement intervals.

If you are on a smaller bike, or ride in a more relaxed manner than standard brake pads should be the choice for you. It may take experimentation but hopefully this mini guide will point you in the right direction, and equip you with the right information to make your brake pads purchase!

Please see the video below for more from EDC on the subject, and as with all of our categories, we have given you a basic lowdown of the difference between HH sintered brake pads and standard brake pads.
